Veruschka in LIFE August 1967

Veruschka in LIFE August 1967

You couldn't open a fashion magazine in the 1960s without seeing Veruschka (aka Vera Gottliebe Anna Gräfin von Lehndorff-Steinort) among the pages. When you're 6'4', you'll stand out. When you look like Veruschka and you're 6'4" – like the cover notes, expect stares. After her successful run in the 60s and early 70s, she was absent from the modeling world for a very long time. In 2000, she made a guest appearance at a Melbourne, Australia fashion festival. Ten years later, at 71, she created a buzz at London Fashion Week when she modeled for Giles Deacon's fall show. Now, she has the face of an older woman that you would expect who did not have "work done" or injections and that is incredibly refreshing.
