Mod Christmas Cards

Mod Christmas Cards

What is it about vintage Christmas cards that makes them so beloved and cherished? For me, it's the soft, painterly illustrations; it's the lush, snow-capped forest scenes with a pair of deer; it's the innocence of cherubs, choir boys, birds in trees and kitties; it's the cartoon-y snowmen and Santas. Vintage christmas cards — I have a particular fondness of cards from the 50s and 60s — bear the hand of the illustrator or painter that created them — many anonymous and unnamed artists that will never get public credit for their work. Growing up, it was always a treat to get the mail in December and I enjoyed flipping through my parent's annual basket of cards. Below I've shared some of my favorites. Enjoy!
